Regional Advisory Committee 3

Ontario and Nunavut

Vivian McAlister, MB, FRCSC
Message from the Chair

I am honoured to welcome you as the Chair, since February 2014, of your Regional Advisory Committee (RAC 3).

I became a fellow of the Royal College in 1990 after completing my postgraduate training in general surgery. I graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1979. After training in family medicine, I practised in Saskatchewan where I completed certification of the Canadian College of Family Physicians. I am now a general surgeon with a special interest in HPB and transplant surgery in London. I joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2008, deploying several times to Afghanistan. I was elected to the Royal College Council in 2011.

Regional Advisory Committees:

  • identify regional issues relevant to the practice of specialty medicine, medical education, and health policy for action by the Royal College
  • promote effective communication with regional members
  • facilitate regional members’ ability to share their perspectives, strategies or solutions within areas of common interest
  • support the continuing professional development of members through collaboration with regional CPD educators and other regional partner organizations
  • identify and support the development of regional members with the experience, skills and expertise to serve in various volunteer roles within the Royal College

Each RAC serves an important role in developing strategies to engage all members in our region in a dialogue concerning issues that are important to the profession and the core mission of the Royal College. We value your involvement and participation in contributing your perspectives and experiences on a wide range of issues or initiatives.

The RAC is one way you can become more involved in the Royal College and contribute to enhancing the practice of specialty medicine.

If you have any questions or issues that you would like to raise, you can contact me at or Kora McNulty (Administrative Coordinator, Membership Services) at or 1-800-668-3740 ext. 173.  RAC Chair email inboxes are monitored by Royal College staff
